Hi! I'm Katie Haskey. I live in Doylestown, PA, about 45 minutes north east of Philadelphia. I will celebrate 4 years of marriage with my husband Ben this september, and we have two big black lab dogs, Hunter and Mowgli. I have always had a passion for art and creating things, but not until recently have I really taken the time to work on something that I'm proud of and make it available to the public eye. I am definitely my own biggest critic and that has always stopped me from putting my artwork out for people to see. Until now.

A few years ago, I was introduced to Dahlias, and it was love at first sight. Their beautiful, vibrant colors had me hooked right from the start. So, of course when Ben and I got married, I had to have dahlias in my bouquet and in the table centerpieces.

The drying and pressing of flowers started with my bouquet so that I could preserve it, like I had seen many other brides do. With a little research and lots of practice I began drying flowers and framing them in shadow boxes. it wasn't long after that that a friend had me do a project for her and her siblings and i was getting a lot of positive feedback so I thought I should keep going. I just wanted to come up with something more unique and personal.

The butterfly idea was something that my dad had shown me in a magazine done by an artist that used fresh botanical objects to create butterflies and other insects. That artist took photographs of their work, and the pieces used to create it were left behind. I wanted to try something similar except I wanted to preserve the actual flowers and keep them.

My butterflies started to take over our house quickly.

I knew I wanted to try to sell my pieces and I had heard of a new store right in downtown Doylestown called Maker's off Main that sold local artists creations. I thought that it could be a great opportunity for me, so I emailed them.

Makers Off Main helped me to sell a lot of butterflies and it was a great learning experience for me. I had people begin to ask for custom orders for butterflies as well as people asking to have flowers preserved from special events. I started to realize that there might be a bigger opportunity for me to grow my business if I really wanted to get to work and start letting more people know what all I could offer.

So, I got to work. I started making butterflies and taking them to fairs and festivals, I started taking on custom orders for preserving bouquets and I began to build up my portfolio.

As I continue to build up my portfolio and take on new projects, I'm always learning and coming up with new ideas and techniques. I've had the opportunity to preserve bouquets from weddings, baby showers, and memorial services and i love being able to create a custom one if a kind piece of art that someone can hang in their home.

These days I try to do as many events as my schedule allows me to squeeze in on my time off from my full-time job. I love meeting new people that allow me to be creative when I preserve their flowers. I am looking forward to the future and all that it might bring!
